Final Reflection

Final Reflection Question: What did you get out of this class? Will you use tech in your classes? How will you use tech in your classes? How has this class changed the way you think about teaching? About technology?

I have learned so much in this class. First of all I'd just like to say that I used to be terrified of computers. I have even caught myself breathing in deeply before starting a new assignment in this class to calm my anxiety about learning a new concept. That was how terrified I was. Anyways, after taking this class I can honestly say that I am not intimidated of computers any longer. I have the confidence to start a project a completely new project that I have never even heard of ie studiocode, and be able to follow through with it and be able to now go back and use it. I believe that this has been really useful to me as a future teacher because I can be up to date with my students and do things with in the classroom that will benefit them and the style of learning that they are exposed to. It is a different day and age in middle schools from when I was there, 10 years in technology is HUGE! I believe that through this class I am no longer intimidated of simple things such as a blog etc. I am not going to be intimmadated by my students neither my computer. I feel very confident and am now looking for new things to learn. Such as the I-Clicker. I am no longer taking deep breaths and feeling anxoius when it comes to computers. Thank you IPT!!!!

EXTRA CREDIT!!!!

Reflection Question: Describe the technology you learned, how you could use it in your teaching and why using it would be beneficial.

I chose to learn how to do an I-Clicker for my students to take polls and quizzes. I learned that i need to install the software and then a base unit. You set up the base unit to the computer through a USB port. I can always contact the HelpDesk at 836-5711. Greg Rineck can also be reached at 836-6017 or at rineckga@uwec.edu.

How I would use the iClicker during a presentation is by opening the folder containing your copy of the iClicker software for the course and section. open up the iclicker.exe file at the start of class. and then select "Start Session" from the main menu. And BAM I have an I-Clicker incorporated into my lesson. I think I would most deffinately use this technology in my classroom. That is if the school has funds for them. I think that we could just have thirty per classroom and they stay in the classroom IDK??? I dont know how funding is distributed yet....but soon I will :)

Mobile Apps

Reflection Question: Would you use mobile apps in your class, why or why not?

I don't plan on using mobile apps, well not yet that is. I feel that this is so new and I don't even have a smart phone. I still have a dorky flip phone that doesn't even have a camera on it....yeah I know, I am still not that technologically savvy. I know that it could be useful use mobile apps in class, but I don't plan on it anytime soon. I am going to student teach next semester and then start teaching in the Fall, hopefully! I feel that I am going to be doing a lot of changes this next semester, hopefully starting with getting a new phone that can access apps. I as a new teacher am not going to worry about whether or not I have the latest and greatest technology. So as of right now, I am not going to use mobile apps in my class.

PLE POST FOR STUDIO CODE!

I learned a lot about management and instruction through watching someone else teach through studio code. I was not in this class like i stated before where you videotape yourself this semester so i borrowed Crystals video. Through watching her it was great to see how she used management and instruction all through out her lesson. In management she did a lot of organization, transitions, and was great at explaining the lesson all through out her class to the students. In instruction she used a lot of cues, jargons, and simplified the lesson as she went.

The students responded to all the management and instruction because Crystal did such a good job at executing it. I think one of the most important thing was to simplify the lesson as you go throughout and teach it. To simplify to the level that your students can perform. And to be a flexible teacher to moderate any lesson that you have organized. What makes a good teacher is one that can go with the flow and make changes without the students knowing that your lesson has not changed completely. And that you are still in charge and confident. Students are sharks and they know when they smell a weakness. So through watching and coding Crystal she did a great job at not showing when she had to make simplifications.

I think that I would demonstrate more than what she did. Just at the start, so that if I demonstrate on the front end I don't have to correct the mistakes on the back end. I will also have definite transitions on everything so that the students know when they should do something, therefore I wont have to be the hardest, busiest one in the classroom, constantly reminding my students to transition. And to have smoother transitions so that I do not waste precious classroom time.

STUDIO CODE

SO I TOOK PEDAGOGY A WHILE AGO AND DID NOT HAVE A TAPE OF MY OWN, I JUST BORROWED ONE FROM CRYSTAL IN OUR CLASS AND HAVE JUST STARTED WORKING ON IT. I HOPE ALL GOES WELL AND THAT I AM ABLE TO DO THIS ASSIGNMENT AND GET A 100% ON IT! I STARTED WORKING ON IT YESTERDAY BUT HAD TO STOP BECAUSE I NEEDED MY HEADPHONES AND I AM TOO CHEAP TO BUY SOME HA SO I AM PLANNING ON DOING IT ALL DAY TOMORROW! HOPEFULLY GET IT FINISHED BEFORE CLASS. SO FAR I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OTHER THAN LEARNING HOW TO DO SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE CAN BE A BIT CHALLENGING. I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED PROJECT.

2.0 is all the rage!

Reflection Question: Were there any Web 2.0 tools that we talked about today that you feel would help further education? How might you use them in your teaching? Also, how might Facebook be utilized in education?

I think that and know that Wikipedia has helped me in my education in so many ways. For example, in English I would go on to Wikipedia and find out more information about a book/novel that we read in class and would get quized on the following class. It is another tool for learning, I love learning from various sources, so this was great to help me out with English.

Facebook in Education?? I think that FB could be used to communicate with classmates who are working on similar at home projects. It could be useful to meet up and make arrangements to do so and to do group projects together. I think that FaceBook is a great communication tool and a way to connect to your classmates. If you cannot get ahold of your teacher, you know you can always find a classmate who might answer a question for you.
